Sometimes it's embarrassing to be an American.

Up at 4:00 a.m. -- to go shopping.

Shoppers beat sunlight to find bargains, by Kyle Lowry (New Albany Tribune).

“At 4 o’clock there were two great big lines up to the doors,” Mayfield said. “Now, there are lines around the entire store to check out. It’s pretty crazy.”

Unbelievable, but then again, materialism being the true faith of our fathers ...

So let's see, some people like to get up at 4 am and go shopping.

Others like to sit around until 4 am and drink beer.

And still others of us would rather just be sleeping at 4 am.

And (at least so far) all three groups in America can decide for themselves which activity they'd like to pursue.

That's not so embarrassing now is it? ;)

Honestly, what is the obsession with having to spend, spend, spend anyway? Isn't just being with or doing something for family and friends good enough anymore?

Life is to short to stress over what people don't need or want.

Yeah I'll take the lump of coal.
