Letter to the newspaper: "I must disagree with (Padgett's) interpretation of safety as it relates to East Spring Street."

This letter to the newspaper from William J. Transue is a reminder that Bill has been in the front lines of the fight for rationalizing neighborhood street grid ever since he invested in New Albany.

Verily, folks like Bill inspired me to invest in a Bushnell Velocity Speed Gun. There's nothing quite like facts, eh?

This is in response to a recent column in the News and Tribune written by Mr. R James Padgett.

Though I agree with Mr. Padgett as it relates to the debacle on East Main Street, I must disagree with his interpretation of safety as it relates to East Spring Street. The cure for the speeding problems is not the addition of a traffic light at 11th and Spring. There is a traffic light at 15th and Spring and all it does is stop the traffic, which doesn’t truly control speeding because people only accelerate to higher speed until they get to the light at Seventh Street and after to Bank Street, speeding isn’t a downtown problem, it is a midtown problem from Fourth Street to Vincennes.

Mr. Padgett didn’t mention a cure for East Elm Street, which as you know is a major portal into the city from the Sherman Minton Bridge that is going to see an increase in traffic — and speeders — after the Ohio River Bridges Project is complete.
