I remember sitting in Heine Brothers at Douglass Loop nearly 4 years ago with Branden from Broken Sidewalk talking about turning Bardstown Road into an automobile-free zone for a day, modeling the cyclovia concept that cities around the world use. I was skeptical that it would ever happen here, we love us some cars on Bardstown Road but my skepticism was misplaced, it’s happening! On Sunday October 14, 2012 from 2PM-6PM Bardstown Road/Baxter Avenue from Douglass Loop to Broadway is going to be free of cars, trucks and buses and filled with bikes, pedestrians, rollerbladers, baby strollers, etc. Because we like to put Lou in any word we can the event is being called cycLOUvia.

Here's the background of this car-free experiment, courtesy of the Consuming Louisville blog.
