Open thread (2011 version): Whither Harvest Homecoming?

According to OSIN, it was business as usual (with) Harvest Homecoming welcom(ing) big weekend crowd(s).

Indeed, the final tallies are being made. For the second year in a row, the weather was ideal. NABC did very well with Fringe Fest, and we thank you all.

We return to the question we reconsider every year after it's over, and goes something like this: "Is Harvest Homecoming good, bad or indifferent for New Albany?"

How can it change? Should it change? What do you think?

Return to the concept of an authentic Harvest Festival by showcasing the revitalizing Farmers Market. Less plastic, more Hay! Our local farmers who show up every week should be able to cash out their season at HH, instead of being closed down. Ditto for all downtown businesses.

Move the HH anywhere (Padgett vacant acres?) that allows residents and businesses to, if not benefit from HH, then be less inconvenienced by it. Better planning and cooperation.

If it wasn’t made in Floyd County, it can’t be in the HH. Are we running Indiana’s biggest Flea Market or a showcase of our county?
