The political dementia of spandex envy in the form of the 4th District's once and never King Larry Kochert continues to exert a strong influence, not unlike the odor of urine after another Harvest Homecoming passed. Think of him as a one-man, garage-vote Pee Party ... and yawn.
Meanwhile, it's worth repeating the question asked of McLaughlin in my Tribune column of March 18, 2010:
"When the time finally comes for last call – not a quick pint before the trip home from the warm pub on a cold, desperate and anonymous night just like all the rest, but the punching of the big ticket and the cosmic bow prior to that most irrevocable of all curtains falling, how will posterity judge your political legacy? Was it progressive or regressive? Was it Dan Coffey’s legacy … or yours?"
NAC's pick: Does the Republican have a pulse? I'll take McLaughlin by a paper-thin margin, as explained by Hiatt in one of his better songs.

first of all regarding Larry Kochert, I believe he deserves some respect. He held every Mayor accountable while he served as city councilman. Did I always agree with Larry, no but I respect him and as a former constituent of Larry's I appreciate his past efforts and service.
Once again this about Pat McLauglin not Larry Roger when will you get over the juvenile bashing of Larry?
I agree with your endorsement in this case, but I wouldnt be so luke warm about it. Pat started as a rubber stamp to King Doug England but once the Kochert style kicked in, guess what his stock rose considerably in my book. He asks tough questions and he holds the current administration's feet to the fire.
If you want to call that the Kochert influence and continue to bash it go ahead, I call it good stewardship vs. the tax and reckless spend candidates you seem to prefer.

On the Phipp's endorsement posting, you admit that you know nothing about his Greg's Republican opponent. Why is that? Yet, you know all that you need to know about Greg from his web page and that's enough for you to make a judgement call.
Mr. Bagshaw, Mr. Gahan or Mr. Messer are not going to be able to "slash" the budget of police & fire. Perhaps a small trim on current budgets but that's about it. Longer term, they may be able to get contracts structured in such a way as to make a more meaningful cut in their percentage of the city budget.

but since you want to post off track, what the hay I am entitled too. One way to perhaps "save the public safety " budget is first day of the Gahan administration: fire Malysz and Rosenbarger, talk about a waste of tax dollars. With those two gone the city might be able to keep a cop or 2.

Here are the 2010 numbers for New Albany and a few of its peers. Per an April 2011 report from DLGF, New Albany spends less per capital than Jeffersonville, Clarksville and Georgetown. New Albany spends less for non-utility expenses and less for total expenses. It's not even close.

On average, Jeffersonville, Clarksville and Georgetown spent 34% more per person than New Albany spent on non-utility costs and 41% more per person in total.
