8th Street Pizza is moving to the building across the street from the Reisz Mahal boondoggle, and 410 Bakery is situated right next to the new city worker luxury edifice -- except the business now will officially become Coffee Crossing.

The changeover makes perfect sense; Coffee Crossing is a well-known brand locally, it's the very same ownership, and 410 Bakery never seemed to find a comfy sweet spot.

Personally, I'm still mourning the cessation of crusty Euro-loaves. We may have been the only customers for these loaves, but they were much appreciated. Here's the scoop from 410:

The soul-numbing pits of depression: 410 Bakery no longer will be selling bread.

This is not to be implied as criticism of 410 Bakery. After all, business is business, and if the owners can't sell enough bread, then a change of course is understandable.

It's merely disheartening to consider that for a while we had baguettes downtown, and now they're going away -- not to mention ciabatta and a really good multi-grain loaf.

A casual seafood joint, a bread company and new pizza place are just a few restaurants foodies can expect to see pop up in downtown New Albany this year.

Want a medium pizza and six pack of New Albanian Brewing Co.'s Hoptimus delivered to your door?

The owner of Big Four Burgers + Beer is looking to make that happen.

Matt McMahan plans to move his concept for the to-go pizza and craft beer joint, called District 22, next to Big Four Burgers and hopes to be open by March. He said the biggest hurdle in making his concept a reality was getting a liquor license that would allow him to sell and also deliver beer.

"About a year and a half ago, I discovered you could do it," he said. "I'm pretty pumped about it. We're going to focus on craft beer and being able to deliver. That is huge."

McMahan said the restaurant, at 110 East Main St., also will have retail space to sell bourbon, beer and wine. The menu will feature a variety of pizza and toppings as well as sandwiches and appetizers from Big Four Burger's menu, including beer cheese.

Earlier we reported that Donum Dei Brewery will be using the rear patio of the former Abe's Rental building at 140 East Main as a pop-up beer garden during Harvest Homecoming.

I'd heard a bakery was coming there, but only just now found the web site.

Originating in the back of Coffee Crossing’s Jeffersonville location, the 410 Bakery is a modern bakery growing into its first retail location in downtown New Albany. The bakery will offer small batch artisan breads, traditional French and modern pastries, and great coffee.

It wasn’t long before Emily (Butts) ran out of space. With a third coffee shop opening in the fall of 2016 it was time to start looking for a new location. An old building at 140 East Main Street, originally built in 1929 as a gas station, might not have seemed like an ideal location at first glance, but it possessed a very unique style that could not be passed up. Unlike its small beginnings in the back of a coffee shop, the new 410 Bakery location will be a full retail bakery offering small batch artisan breads, modern pastries, and a coffee bar.

Duh! I know Emily's dad; we went to university together.

Best of luck to her -- is she decides to make European-style bread, I'll never leave the joint, and anyway, it's exciting to have the historic building back in use.
