Commentary: ‘Blue Lives’ do matter, but proposed bill is misguided and tone deaf, by Joe Dunman (Insider Louisville)
... Of course, emergency responders and police officers do very important work. But if that’s the prime motivation for adding them to the hate crimes law, why not also add doctors and nurses? Or utility workers? Or pilots? If “all lives matter,” why not add every risky job to the list? Why single out any particular form of employment?

Dunman: "'Blue Lives’ do matter, but proposed bill is misguided and tone deaf."
Yet another well-reasoned commentary destined to be ignored, but thanks from those of us who read.

How many doctors, nurses, utility workers, or pilots are being targeted to be shot, stabbed, ran over, dragged?
How many of the other professions are having their houses shot up, burned down?
When's the last time you heard of popular culture chanting "fuck the nurses!" Or "bang, bang, pilot, pilot"
Even better yet, when's the last (or first time) you yourself mourned the loss of a family member, friend, or other family member that lost their life, left a child without a parent, a young spouse without a husband or wife because they were killed simply because of the job they do?
Sure, two questionable shootings have occurred lately from police, but since then dozens of officers have been wounded in Michigan, Texas, Tennessee, Indiana, Georgia, California, Washington state, DC.
5 dead in Dallas, two in Michigan, and so on...
Just because of the job they do and assholes that believe it's OK to do so because there are those that believe they aren't worthy of extra protection under the law after they are killed or attempted to be killed....
3 more killed in Baton Rouge this morning....
Sadly, yes.
