Well, well. It's deja vu, all over again, in the form of a nice, glossy piece in the snail mail today.
Says that, "Shane Gibson put criminals on our streets" and "has been irresponsible and left our families in harm's way." Accuses him of cutting deals while serving as a deputy prosecutor. Doesn't mention whether current prosecutor Keith Henderson's ever cut deals, although given the burgeoning number of citizens imprisoned for jaywalking, Henderson might indeed be a virgin when it comes to such deals.
But I digress. More boilerplate attack-dog negativism, from the (wait for it) House Republican Campaign Committee (HRCC) in Indianapolis.
Perhaps Gibson's incumbent opponent can issue his denials and expressions of HRCC impotence now, and avoid the post-Labor Day rush.
Conversely, perhaps both candidates can jointly proclaim: "We shall run pristine campaigns on the issues, and the issues alone, absent anything negative spewing from our own mouths, while of course leaving the mudslinging to mercenary surrogates up north."
That would make me feel much better.

At first glance, I thought it was referring to some imagined problem at our Animal Shelter. What a slimy piece of hyperbolic dreck. Ed Clere might try to disavow it, but it really shows the dark, creepy side of his Republican Party. (Is there another side?) We already know by now what the R's are against: everything. And everybody who doesn't belong to their church and their country club!
Most criminal matters are resolved by "cutting deals."
That is either a flat-out ignorant or intentionally misleading statement by Ed's campaign. I'm leaning towards the latter.
I'm sure Ed will disavow knowledge since it was sent by the HRCC and they claim to not have any connection to individual campaigns.
Gotta love those campaign laws, huh?
Not to draw attention to myself unnecessarily, but I predicted that the "bloody knife" would make a reappearance this year.
Not so prescient...except that I predicted to Ed and Amy Clere, who demurred, saying "this time" it wouldn't happen.
Uh-huh.
By the way, the drums are beating already for a new jail. Not enough people are locked up now, apparently, and certainly not enough are being sent to state prison...just left to languish without bail in Floyd County's jail.
By law, New Albany has zero responsibility for maintaining a jail. Ipso facto, New Albany taxpayers, AS New Albany taxpayers, have no responsibility to pay for a jail, either.
If Floyd County wants to use its allotment of taxes to buy a jail and pay contractors, let 'em.
We'll use OUR taxes to build a safer city.
Oh, and I like Ed just fine. But that's quite enough of that. Forceful disavowal coming? Bet not.
A few months ago, a mailer went out claiming Clere spends his time in his luxury box at Lucas Oil where he entertains his millionaire athlete friends. I doubt Ed's ever been to Lucas Oil and that's certainly not the crowd with which Ed runs. I'm not saying two wrongs make a right. I'm saying hyperbole and intentionally misleading statements should be disavowed by both sides.
