Rewind: Close to this day in 2007.

As always, my goal is to stay as far away from Thunder Over Louisville as humanly possible. At the same time, my thoughts are on the record, and there's no need to elaborate, save for this interesting topical reference from 2007: Diversions on an ear-splitting, "Thunderous" Saturday.

And: The NBA playoffs start now!

Thanks Roger. My feelings mirror your own. This is my first Thunder on this side of the river & there is much less anxiety over here. I caught the last bicycle shuttle across the bridge last night & vowed not to return until Monday morning. I take solace in the fact that I have work to do that can be accomplished from home (and the playoffs).

I went to Thunder one time when I was younger and had much less basic sense. I ended up drunker than I have ever been in my entire life, listening to Lee Greenwood blast from some ungodly place, lonely and miserable.

I have a Republican friend who is a former member of the Air Force (he says). He calls me every year on this day to remind me of what Thunder symbolizes and what it all means. This year I told him how ironic I found it that the fireworks and commotion may cause the Bald Eagles on Shippingport Island to abandon their nests. The eagles representing that time honored symbol of American resilience and freedom, displaced by these other symbols of American excess, military industrialism, and freedom.

He always says that Thunder over Louisville is the sound of freedom, and equates any anti-Thunder sentiment with anti-Americanism, communism, and pretty much true evil as it exists on this planet.

Which is all very logical, mind you, I just wish freedom were a little more pleasant to the ears.

Thinder over Louisville '10 for me and mine was spent exploring the greenway in Evansville and eating at Der Gerst Bavarian Haus there.

I watched a DVR'd football match that Bayern Munich played earlier today during Thunder. I was appreciative of the fireworks as Bayern scored 7 goals in their win today. Thanks Thunder!
