The Bookseller's summer reading tips on WFPL-89.3's "State of Affairs" today.

Plucked from the in-box. For summer fiction, I'm reading "Moby Dick" by Herman Melville, and in the non-fiction realm, "The Coming of the Third Reich" by Richard J. Evans.

----

For the third year, Randy (Smith) has been invited to share his picks of the summer's best reading with listeners to "State of Affairs," the daily local call-in show on WFPL 89.3 FM, Louisville's NPR News station, on Monday, June 8, 2009.

State of Affairs, produced by Robin Fisher and hosted by Julie Kredens, airs at 1 p.m. now, with a re-broadcast at 8 p.m. If you can't listen on the radio, it is streamed live at
wfpl.org, where you can later listen to a podcast of the show.

Randy joins Kelly Estep of Carmichael's Bookstore and Robert Gieszl of the Louisville Free Public Library.

As a preview to you, Randy is picking two non-fiction titles this year, and one novel. In addition, we've each been asked to suggest a "classic" book you can tackle this summer.

Please tune in, and if you're so inclined, call in and join the discussion.

I was able to listen for 10 minutes or so. For what it's worth, I am reading Moby Dick with Roger and Joel. I am also pleased with Peter Matthiessen's epic Shadow Country. In terms of nonfiction, I also bought that Richard J. Evans last fall. I may petition a tandem read, dear Publican.
