Spitwads aplenty in the world capital of begrudgery.

Anonymous character assassins really wear me out.

Granted, I enjoy a few drinks, but I really can't remember asking the city council for money to launch a business. I'm still waiting for Mayor Garner to forward that million bucks that an earlier generation of troglodytes insisted was coming my way.

Over at the Tribune's forum, there's a respectful discussion about my European proclivities in which there is debate over whether I'm a capitalist (concerned only about $$$$$$, as is alleged elsewhere) or a socialist in sheep's clothes.

Why is it phrased as "either capitalism or socialism"?

Elements of both would be suitable, right?

Wait ... that'd be European social democracy, wouldn't it?

Yep. I'm still waiting for my new car from Mayor Garner.

I was getting that either/or vibe, too. I kept wondering if all those businesses in Europe know that they're not engaged in capitalism.

Anonymouses are imaginary and irrelevant to the revitalization process. Therefore, I treat them that way.

c'mon...you know that with success makes those around the hater-ade cooler want to talk trash and spread stupid enquirer-esque slander all over southern indiana.

you can either live in the fishbowl, or do what you've done and realize that the earth is not flat and has way more to offer than the Jeff v. New Albany hs sports rivalry...

in other words Rodger, F-em!

The best measure of how much of a difference you are making is the number of people who try and slander you.
Keep up what you are doing Roger, and keep bringing attention to the fact that the ailments of our little river city are rooted in our own collective indifference.

For the record, to the best of my recollection, the Council did not see a plan to fund New Albanian Brewery.

Snipers (those who snipe) should be aware, however, that brewing beer is a noble endeavor.

The recent Republican nominee for President is married to a member of a family which derives its sizable income from its association with Anheuser Busch.

Come to think of it, that doesn't actually boost the McCains' bona fides too much, but neither does it diminish brewing's nobility.

New Albany should celebrate the success of a transplant from the hinterlands making a business here which garners national renown.

Brewing is a manufacturing process. How many other manufacturers have chosen to stay and grow in New Albany?

Best of luck to the New Albanian Brewing Co. and its eponymous blogger.

Wow, the vitriol (not to mention countless syntax errors) of Anonymous are overwhelming. It’s curious that Anonymous cites as government waste the $5,000 check that the city gives Develop New Albany each year. Forget for a minute that this is far less financial support than what many Main Street Associations receive from similar sized municipalities in the region. I suppose Anonymous doesn’t know that DNA gives checks to the city too. For example, during Harvest Homecoming, instead of using paid city employees, DNA volunteers serve as parking attendants at the parking garage. The proceeds are split between the city and DNA. For 2008, DNA handed the redevelopment commission a check for approximately $3,700. If Anonymous thinks government support for a Main Street Association is waste, fine. But at least get the numbers right.

Roger, I didn't realize you had hot dogs on the menu! Why wasn't I informed of this?!

I rarely read posts by Anonymous on anyone's blog. Anyone who goes by "Anonymous" doesn't have the testicular fortitude to put their name with their ideas, and I have no need to respect or even entertain the views of such cowards.

What strikes me about all of this is the either you are a capitalist or a socialist argument. It seems that the IQ level of the people in this nation has fallen so low that many people do not realize that to say that there are only two perspectives or 'two sides' is to greatly limit the capacity for human thought.

On the flip side, Jim Baird and I actually met and had a conversation. He's interested in helping further develop Joe Kraft Park on West 7th.

We both made suggestions as to what was needed and how to proceed. He's going to check on interest and suggestions from some West End residents and get back with me, probably via Shirley and her blog.

When people aren't anonymous, real things happen.
