News and Tribune loses young talent as John Boyle moves to 89.3 WFPL.

John Boyle has been selected one of Report for America's 2020-2021 Corps Members.

Boyle revealed the switch on social media.

I'm thrilled to finally announce that I'll be joining 89.3 WFPL News Louisville on June 1. Last month, I was lucky enough to be selected as one of Report for America's 2020-2021 Corps Members. My team is changing, but I'll still be covering Southern Indiana, along with health.

I can't stress enough how grateful I am to everybody at the News and Tribune. They gave me my first shot out of college and welcomed me back after I spent some time in NYC. None of this would be possible without The Horizon team, either. To everybody who has played a role in my journey up to this point (and there are lots of you), thank you!

Dana McMahan is a veteran Louisville foodie and writer, so this isn't your average Yelp screed in crayon. When it appeared on Facebook yesterday, one of the first "shares" was by Rick Adams, chef at the adjacent, newly relocated Exchange, which tells you something quite positive about the emerging food and drink community in New Albany. We're in it together.

REVIEW: Feast BBQ a Candidate for Last, Great Meal (WFPL radio)

 ... Our hefty platters arrived soon. Brisket, chicken, pulled pork, smoked tofu, sweet potato fries, mac and cheese, baked beans, collard greens—dish after dish. I tore into my plate with full intentions of finishing all of my dishes and tasting everything. And it was a valiant attempt. “I am impressed,” my husband said in reverent tones as I plowed through the spread.

The food was so very, very good that it didn’t take any particular skill on the part of this professional eater to polish off a significant portion. The creamy, peppery mac and cheese led perfectly to the crunchy cole slaw, which was the perfect segue to the savory, succulent pulled pork, followed by the surprisingly complex tofu and capped off with the perfectly crispy, sweet and savory sweet potato fries.

Me to WFPL: "I think it’s a good opportunity for us in New Albany to make sure everybody on our side of the river knows we’re here."

Indiana Brewer Says Bridge Closure A Chance for Hoosiers to Visit Local Businesses

A New Albany business owner says the Sherman Minton Bridge’s closure has given him a better chance to connect with Hoosier customers.

Roger Baylor is co-owner of the New Albanian Brewing Company, which has two restaurants in the city. He says he’s not worried about losing business in the short term while New Albany’s connection to Louisville is severed.

“When you’re already a destination business and you’re already a niche business and people already know what you are and what to look for, the ones who are into it will still come,” he says. “But I think it’s a good opportunity for us in New Albany to make sure everybody on our side of the river knows we’re here.”

Baylor says he’s talking with his fellow New Albany business owners to determine a long-term plan to adjust to the bridge closure.
