11:10 a.m. update: A reliable source has just reported that restaurateur Sam Anderson, who lost to Dick Stewart by a razor-thin margin in the May primary, has just left the clerk's office in the company of Floyd County GOP chairman David Matthews. It is surmised that Anderson will be the new Republican candidate for the 6th district seat currently occupied by Jeff Gahan (D). Verification, anyone?
Sunday’s Tribune reported the death of Dick Stewart, local gadfly and the Republican candidate for the 6th district council seat.
STEWART, CANDIDATE FOR NEW ALBANY CITY COUNCIL, DIES.
The "Fiscal Conservative" pays tribute: In Memory of Richard "Dick" Stewart.
Speaking personally, I admired Dick’s verve even if it was consistently directed toward the wrong target, and NAC actually praised him for his council campaign platform plank of a “revolving home-ownership program for first-time buyers as a means to reduce rentals.”
Our condolences are extended to Dick’s family and friends.

Tribune reports that 6th district council candidate Stewart is a stroke victim.
New Albany City Council candidate suffered stroke; Stewart has been recovering since early August, by Eric Scott Campbell (News and Tribune)
Dick Stewart, a candidate for New Albany City Council, suffered a stroke in early August, affecting his ability to speak, friends and colleagues confirmed Friday.
To be sure, strokes are a nasty business. Dick and I disagree on almost every pertinent issue, but I wish him the best of luck and speed in his recovery.
