The late Tommy Ramone is pictured with my friend, musician and Lambic aficionado Paul Priest, at a gig they both played in 2009. Paul put this photo on Facebook, and it is especially relevant given the origins of Ramone, whose birth name was Thomas Erdelyi (Erdélyi Tamás):
Erdélyi was Jewish, and was born in Budapest, Hungary, in 1952, to Jewish parents who had survived the Holocaust by being hidden by neighbors, though many of his relatives were victims of the Nazis.
Music AND beer ... both can do the job when it comes to slaying fascists, don't you think?
Tommy Ramone, the last original Ramone, dies aged 62; Drummer of seminal New York punk band played on their first three – and best – albums, by Tracy McVeigh (Guardian/Observer)
