We viewed "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" yesterday, and there may have been as many as 100 people in attendance. I was impressed with the turnout. The film itself is formulaic, but at a high level of competence, with an entertaining cast of A-list British performers (seemingly half of whom are starring in Downton Abbey) given ample opportunity to stretch amid mysterious Jaipur backdrops.

We've lately employed a new strategy rather successfully: Go see films aimed at old people (this one) during the latest showing and ones aimed at young people (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) as early as possible.
Fun movies, empty theaters. We encountered less than 10 others combined.
I'm sure Mumbaian temperatures yesterday ha dnothing to do with people going to the cinema.
Could have been the temps. Demographically, it was the movie's target audience, i.e., I was among the younger attendees.
I think Jeff's answer and the humidity made it a gay old time for the gray geese.
