Surreal senselessness.

You're probably aware that there was a shooting yesterday near Georgetown. From this morning's Louisville Courier-Journal:

Teen suspect, one deputy dead; 2nd deputy wounded
Following the shooting and a subsequent standoff, police found the body of a 15-year-old boy in a house in a rural area of Georgetown.

Also, useful advice from the Tribune: Talking to your kids about the tragedy

Nothing glib or articulate springs to mind. Consult your consciences, and please keep the families in your thoughts.

Surreal senseless is true. I have no thoughts other than the fact that this is such a sad, sad story that has left a tragic wake.

Angry Teen boy + high powered rifle = too many deaths in this country. Either we deal with our mental health issues, or use some more gun control, or what? Senseless - no, deeply regrettable - yes.

The gun control issue is so important today, and this event rockets it to the top of our wish list.
Sheriff Darrell Mills says the officer's family will be taken care of and I believe him. But, there is also a fund set up at the Harrison County Bank Floyds Knobs location. Also, a community blood drive in honor of Officers White and Denzinger is being held Thursday at Wesley Chapel Church from noon to 8 p.m.

And read the Tribune article and support the Youth Count initiative. This is more important now than ever.

I can not express in words what a loss this is to our community.
PLEASE, PLEASE everyone who reads this blog strongly consider making a donation to the fund set up for Deputy Denzinger's Family.
Even if it is only a couple of dollars. It is not the money that matters, it is the knowledge for Tara, and their child to know that the community cares.
Deputies Denzinger and White have done their duty for US, Frank Denzinger paid the ultimate price.
Please give blood in their honor as mentioned previously.
