New Albany is a state of mind … but whose? Since 2004, we’ve been observing the contemporary scene in this slowly awakening old river town. If it’s true that a pre-digital stopped clock is right twice a day, when will New Albany learn to tell time?

By the way, it's an exact quote from the developer last evening, as he berated the council, Bev Crump in particular, and ratted out his own supporters in planning and redevelopment (paraphrasing, those who said council approval was a "formality" and that he'd be given "benefit of the doubt".)
Here's another:
"This is the most ridiculous rezoning I've ever been through in the United States of America."
Better yet was CM Coffey's groveling apology to McCartin for council behavior. The Wizard said he was sorry that for the first time in six years, the council was forcing someone to offer an explanation.
Was it here or somewhere else that we were discussing the concept of "fluffing"?
Typical Coffey. During the same meeting, he warned against offering incentives for inner-city development via sewer tap-in waivers, citing too much rental property and landlords not paying their share. He then nearly sacrificed a couple of vertebrae smooching up to the uberarrogant, exurban sprawl king.
There's a reason that there's so much sub-standard rental property downtown, Dan, and you're a part of it. A man spends a good portion of his political career granting zoning exceptions and tax abatements to exurban developers with no questions asked, arguing against inner-city incentives and development projects and then can't quite put his finger on why there are so many shoddy rental properties in his downtown district.
The intellectual disconnect is so complete it's difficult to even find a word to describe it.
