As a preface to what follows, the Mouse suggests you take another look at the concluding chapter of NA Confidential's series surveying the vast sums of money being channeled from out-of-town companies doing business with the city -- as exemplified by the grandly Orwellian "Mt. Tabor Road Restoration and Pedestrian Safety Project."

What this neighborhood is going through is incredible. We begin with explanations, and follow with photos.

I was quite disturbed by what I found when walking through the construction site on Mt. Tabor yesterday. People should know what is happening to our neighborhood.

1 – The storm water “pipe” along the road is just a small corrugated pipe that has been duct-taped together.

2 – The exit drains to the creek do not run down the hillside. They shoot water (and street garbage) into the creek.

3 – In many areas. The rip-rap that is supposed to slow the water extends only a few feet beyond the exit drain, not the full length of the hillside.

4 – No measures have been take to collect the garbage that will flow out the drain.

The creek is being turned into a landfill!

There can be only one conclusion: #FireGahan2019

Gahan or anyone working in the city's administration is under federal investigation or indictment for corruption, bribery or racketeering. This is an ad in the New Albany-Floyd County School Corporation's 2018-2019 school directory -- on page 2 no less! Ridiculous spending. Maybe the tagline should be "Brighter futures are made in Southern Indiana unless you try to cross Spring Street." Or maybe, "One day if you try hard enough, you too can be a street sweeper in NA."

If street sweeping is a skilled trade, Wendy Dant Chesser no doubt would agree with Gahan's ad placement -- so I fixed it.

Have you ever wondered just how much taxpayer money City Hall spends to promote Gahan's cult of personality?

Yes, Jeff, we know you're The Luxury Mayor: "Working so hard, to keep you from the poverty."

Jeff Gahan and the local Democratic Party are really excited about subsidizing the construction of luxury apartments just a few blocks away from the city's most concentrated areas of poverty.

As New Albany Census Facts (2009-2013) readily attest:

NA median household income: $39,607 ($48,248 overall in Indiana)

Persons below poverty level in NA: 22.2% (15.4% overall in Indiana)

We all know the parts of town most affected by these numbers, so think about this.

Our Democrats are monetarily supporting Bocce ball, "Gigabit Internet access" and other upscale amenities for the few, as Gahan's campaign vows from 2011 (jobs and education) go entirely unmentioned. Even those whom we'd have expected to denounce such coded social engineering have fallen into line.

“When I came on the council, philosophically, I was opposed to ideas like this,” Phipps said. “I called it corporate welfare as well. For some of the naysayers out there that say this isn’t a thing for Democrats to do, I thought renewing urban environments, cleaning up blighted areas and bringing residents to the community so they can support locally owned business, is very much a Democrat thing to do.”

But Greg: What about the message these subsidies send, not to just to the desperate and impoverished in our community, but also to working families just managing to get by, who are struggling with income inequality and low-wage jobs, and destined to be excluded by the ethos of privilege?

Can someone in the ruling elite explain to them how the "ripple effect" (Duggins' words) is going to lift them up?

What has Jeff Gahan, a supposed Democrat, done in four years for those most in need of hope, apart from hand them nicely suburbanized (and frightfully expensive) parks?
