Starting today: Extended Sunday hours at Bank Street Brewhouse.

Beginning today (Sunday, July 21), we’re extending Sunday opening hours at Bank Street Brewhouse until 9:00 p.m. The kitchen will close at 8:30 p.m.

The revamped Sunday schedule looks like this:

10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Sunday Brewhouse Brunch menu and Build Your Own Bloody Mary Bar

2:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., regular food menu

9:00 p.m., closing

All day long, growlers and bombers of NABC beer are available to go, because on Sundays in Indiana, the only carry-out beer comes to you from Hoosier small breweries. For carry-out wine on Sundays, there's the River City Winery just up the street.

Perhaps two-way street, sooner rather than later?

NABC's Pizzeria & Public House is open from 11:00 a.m. today (Saturday, March 6) for business as usual.

NABC Bank Street Street Brewhouse is hosting a private party for the visiting busload of Hoosier Beer Geeks (Indianapolis) during lunchtime today, and will be open for business at 4:30 p.m.

If you are an employee of Indiana American Water, you'll be charged an additional 300% at both our locations to help begin recouping the money lost owing to your company's incompetence yesterday. Thanks for understanding.

Unofficially Thanksgiving at the Public House.

Neither NABC location is OFFICIALLY open on Thanksgiving, but at the Public House (formerly Rich O's), our beer manager Mike will be UNOFFICIALLY open at 6 p.m. on Thursday.

The pizza oven WILL BE OFF, so no food as usual, but Mike (assisted by Joy) is making a batch of Bison & Elk Chili, and he encourages you to bring leftovers and have a pint or two. The Curmudgeons might even drop by after we've finished our usual Vietnam Kitchen feast and a movie.

On Friday, the Pizzeria & Public House begins operations at 11:00 a.m., and Bank Street Brewhouse will be open at 2:00 p.m.

Winter Hours begin at Bank Street Brewhouse today.

During the winter months, BSB will be opening at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Weekend hours and schedules remain the same as before. We're also working on winterizing the Taxpayer Memorial Patio, and next week there'll be a full list of festivities for the delayed Grand Opening, with a ribbon cutting on Wednesday. More on that tomorrow.

Here is the BSB winter plan of operation for 2009/10, effective today, and note that we're still closed on Mondays.

BSB hours: 2:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.

From 2:00 p.m., “Brotzeit” (cheese plate, charcuterie, snacks, frites, mussels, etc.) It’s a Bavarian term that denotes appetizers for the times when the kitchen isn’t preparing full meals.

Kitchen hours: 5:30 – 9:00 p.m., featuring some of Josh Lehman’s and Andrew Gunn’s traditional menu favorites as well as new “Chefs’ Choice” fixed price menus -- three courses for $16 (not including sales tax and service), only on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings.

Friday and Saturday
BSB hours: 11:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m.

From 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., our customary lunch menu. From 2:00 p.m., afternoon “Brotzeit” snacks.

Kitchen hours: 5:30 – 10:00 p.m. for traditional menu favorites and nightly “Chefs’ Choice” specials.

BSB Hours: 12:00 Noon – 8:00 p.m.

12:00 noon – 3:00 p.m., NABC’s Build-Your-Own Bloody Mary Bar, featuring craft-distilled Hangar One Vodka and your choice of herbs, spices, garnishes and hot sauces in what might be termed “brunch in a glass.”

Kitchen hours: Noon – 7:00 p.m., with “Brotzeit” and “Chefs’ Choice” menu selections.

The Bank Street Brewhouse will observe tomorrow's holiday with beer and chocolate.

NABC Grant Line (pub and pizzeria) will be closed on Easter Sunday. Then again, we're always closed on Sunday, aren't we?

However, the irreligious among us (we rather enjoy each other's company) will be opening the Bank Street Brewhouse from Noon to 8:00 p.m. for frivolity, beer and chocolate. The latter will be the only food available, because the kitchen will be closed, unless Chef Josh permits us to grill the Easter Bunny outside.

If you're in the market for adult refreshment between religious observances, family visits and meals, drop by and say hello.

NABC will be open at noon on Wednesday the 28th (Sportstime side).

Update:

Forget what I wrote before. Kate and Jesse are in the building (no power outage, at least yet), and enough of the crew can be rounded up for NABC to open for business at noon, pizza side only.

I'll provide updates later, but for now, there is food and beer on Plaza Drive from noon on.

Open thread: Holiday hours for downtown New Albany bars and restaurants?

NABC’s company party was at Connor’s Place yesterday, and it was a strange sensation to be watching a football game, craft beer in hand and a plate of nibbles close by, on a Sunday afternoon in downtown New Albany, although to be fair, I believe that Pastime and Hugh Bir’s are usually open on Sundays, and of course Little Chef never closes.

When the Bank Street Brewhouse’s taproom opens (in February, we hope), we’re going to try Sunday hours in a yet-to-be-determined format. Overall, as in so many other areas of consideration, it’s a chicken and egg argument in that people don’t come downtown on Sunday … but, few businesses are open to attract them.

This brings us to the topic of holiday hours. With Christmas and New Year’s falling in the middle of the week this year, what hours will downtown bars and restaurants be observing?

Note that owing to the existence of an archaic Indiana state law that clearly violates the principle of church/state separation, alcoholic beverages cannot be sold on Christmas Day. ACLU, where are you when we need you most?

Yesterday Buddy Sandbach told me that the Codfather (a.k.a., Dave Himmel) has given him the okay to open Connor's Place at 2:00 p.m. on Christmas Eve and tend bar until early evening, or a bit later if business merits. Food will be limited to pizza and skins. Connor's Place is located at 134 East Market Street, next to the Grand Theater in downtown New Albany.

It isn't located downtown, but for the record, NABC/Rich O's/Sportstime (3312 Plaza Drive) will be closed on both holiday eves and days: Christmas Eve and Day (December 24 & 25) and New Year's Eve and Day (December 31, January 1). Otherwise, business hours as usual.
