Recbar 812 made the best of construction delays, turning the situation into gently self-deprecating laughs.

"When are you opening in New Albany?" The burning question of the year. It's been a much longer process than we ever would have planned and we appreciate everyone's support. We know Fall 2019 has come and gone but Santa is rewarding your patience with an opening date. February 3, 2020, Recbar 812 will open it's doors to over 200 games, a full bar & delicious grub menu! Recbar 812's location is the southeast corner of Spring and Pearl, across from Bicentennial Park. Did I mention the grand opening is slated for February 3?

Time erases: Signs, signs, everywhere signs; some coming, some going.

Quite a few of us always will love Chef Israel Landin and his food, and we enjoyed his ill-fated previous restaurant, La Rosita's (now he's rocking here), but isn't it pleasant at long last to see the old sign gone, the building being painted and a business (RecBar 812) coming close to occupying it?

Next up: That annoyingly permanent Preston's signage, always a decaying reminder of the store's demise eight years ago.

Power move: Him Gentleman's Boutique and Mane Alley Color & Extension Bar to transform the moribund Preston Arts Building.

Of course adjacent to the future Him is the currently moribund River City Winery, surely downtown's favorite topic of eatery speculation, and perhaps with new signs of hope ... like this one, although the bank comes off a tad badly.

Last, and appropriately, this one. It may have been my own former business, and it seems a shame to cover the artwork with fresh paint, but it has to happen eventually -- and no, I don't have any updates about the future occupant.

The Green Mouse keeps listening, you know.

Recbar 812 build-out underway. Here's my beer advice.

Here's a suggestion for Recbar 812. If they're intent on 20 draft lines, then become an unofficial "tied" house for an Indiana brewery (obviously contractual agreements are not legal) and devote half those lines to them.

Sun King? Three Floyds? 18th Street? Daredevil? Be different, guys.

Or, just be an Indiana-beer-only draft house; it would be easy enough to do, and the inevitable mass market swill could be served in cans.

Jeffersontown arcade-bar’s owner looks forward to expanding

New Albany’s Pearl Street will soon be home to an expansion of Louisville’s popular arcade-bar known as Recbar.

The New Albany Recbar location will occupy more than double the square footage of its Louisville location. Founder and owner Corey Sims plans on housing over 200 games at Recbar 812, including Centipede, Donkey Kong and several mini-bowling lanes.

In addition to Recbar 812’s myriad arcade games and pinball machines, Sims plans on having between 16-20 brews on tap, similar to the Louisville location’s 16 taps.

Recbar’s announcement to expand in mid-April was a pleasant surprise to its Facebook followers, but Sims said it had been decided from the beginning.

“We always believed Recbar would be a concept that we could expand beyond our current location,” Sims said. “New Albany was the perfect fit” ...
