 ... Actually, the media and the electorate couldn’t have cared less about the election, preferring to wait until minutes before the election and allow a tiny fraction of the voters to make the decisions for them. As Paul Simon said in Mrs. Robinson, “any way you look at it you lose.”

I like to blame the media, since they are the gatekeepers of information, those with the time and wherewithal to present the important facts, although with less and less time and less and less freedom to do their jobs effectively. But voters who don’t demand more from the fourth estate share some of the blame, too. However, the deeper, underlying rationale for the problem is that all parties, and the corporate media, and the voters, and the elected officials themselves, like the system just the way it is. In my sermons to voters, the party functionaries, the media, I always got the same blank stare, which had a couple possible explanations ...

John Griffin Miller has been a nonprofit manager for about 10 years following a 25-year career in executive retail management. With experience in church governance, purchasing, construction, information technology and human resources, he works for a military charity near Fort Knox, after building houses for low-income families in southern Indiana for 8 years.

He is 55 and the father of four grown children. He lives in Corydon.

When last we glimpsed John Miller, he was presiding over the disintegrating remnants of New Albany's CHDO, which is a sad story overall, and one told previously in this space.

Linden Meadows bubbled to the surface again a few days ago: New Albany Sewer Board won't go after Linden Meadows tap fees. About the same time, Bluegill gave a heads-up that Jake at The 'Ville Voice blog had taken notice of John. None of us knew that he is running against Louisville's iconic 9th district Metro Council rep, Tina Ward Pugh.

New Albany Community Housing now HUD-certified as a Housing Counseling Agency.

Pat Yense-Woosley at our office worked really, really hard to get us approved with HUD as a certified Housing Counseling Agency. It took months and months, the info is on our website, and we're trying to spread the word:

Most counseling agencies (both big ones in Louisville) are bogged down with foreclosure right now, but we're still able to focus on homebuyer education and credit/budget counseling.
