2014 Euro Reunion Tour, Day 5: A Spezial reintroduction to Bamberg.

An early morning departure from Berlin's gleaming (fairly) new Hauptbahnhof brought us to Bamberg at lunchtime. To know me is to know how much I adore this city, and what continues to make it exciting for me are the myriad little changes amid tradition, as well as the presence in 2014 of four friends, only one of whom had visited previously.

Jeff and Karen were slated for noontime arrival, and we met as planned. The idea was to begin at the highest point, and so we strolled to the Spezial Keller for the view and the smoked lager. A more lengthy description is here at my PC blog.

It was a chilly day, perhaps accounting for the absence of huge throngs of the sort who enjoy cool summertime breezes at the Spezial Keller. It didn't matter to us. The beer was brilliant.

Eventually a circuitous path was found via the Wunderberg neighborhood, one leading to our rooms upstairs at the original Spezial, where the beers are brewed and classic Bavarian meals are served.

On Monday, we'd get out and wander ... nd welcome Joe and Kris to the pack.
