Attempt, I think, is being generous.
If you find anything you didn't know, say, like, the reasoning used for determining what constitutes "essential" or how we're supposed to "get informed" if the guy we hired to keep us so has so little to say, please leave a comment. I at least hope they didn't pay for this.
They made decisions on cuts. "Last and only resort" is untrue. Perhaps cut all sports funding? We're placing HS basketball above reading retention programs? Perhaps cut the free open gym programs for adults at schools like Slate Run. I am a Parks and Recreation advocate but paying staff and lighting for free basketball for adults all winter long somehow seems less important than certified PE programs for the children that attend the school.
ReplyDeleteAgain, this is another bargaining tool to put pressure on the teachers to reduce raises and insurance--that may be the next and logical step, but that should be handled at the bargaining table, not in public and certainly not on a slick, savvy, (and I am sure expensive) misleading video.
Also, I am sick of them telling me that we've been having shortfalls for some time now, but have very recently completed outrageously expensive construction projects.
Two Questions:
ReplyDelete1. Last year, during Hibbard’s and Daniels’ brief exchange of sound bites, Daniels claimed that Floyd Co. was among the worst school corporations in getting dollars into the classrooms.
If there was a rebuttal from Hibbard, I didn’t hear it. If Daniels’ ever cited a particular study, I didn’t see it. If the media ever parsed out these claims, I didn’t read it.
What were they talking about?
2. The video blames the economic “collapse” for the cuts. Are we to presume that most/all cuts will be undone once the economy is back on track?
If not, then why are they talking about the economy?
I'd love to know how much they spent on this slick video that they turned out in 2 days time.
