Daisy would appear to have fled falling bricks. That's one big hole.
If Ted, David or the other resident historians are reading, can you provide some background?
It's just an opinion, but this always has struck me as a dignified but neglected building, one that has become progressively more dilapidated through the years. Wasn't it a railroad building of some sort? Do you have any information on the gaping cavity?
Ironically, just the day before viewing the hole shown above, Mrs. Confidential and I walked from our house to the Loop Island Wetlands and observed the now tidy result of last year's unfortunate roof cave-in at the old tannery building complex, where owner Al Goodman had no choice but partial demolition after Mother Nature intervened to make the call.
Add to these scenes the demolition of the old railroad depot by the levee at the foot of State Street, and also of the brick warehouse buildings of 8th Street/Grant Line Road and Vincennes, and we must conclude that 2005 was a tough year for some of the city's older industrial structures.
Where have all the bricks gone?
The warehouse on 8th/Vincennes/Grant Line was "deconstructed", over the late-summer/early autumn, as it were by questionable types, filling up long-bed trucks. Their destination remains unknown.
ReplyDeleteThere is an assuring flury of activity at 428 Vincennes, does anyone know whether it is commercial in nature?
ReplyDeleteThe tomb of silence at the former CA Coffee isn't exactly encouraging.
I heard somewhere that there was going to be a doctor's office in the building at 428 Vincennes but I can't remember who told me.
ReplyDeleteRick Henson dba Cabinet's by Rick has done awonderful job cleaning up a huge eyesore at 8th/Vincennes/Grant Line. Granted it was a piece of NA history but others did nothing to correct and unsafe structure. Rick is a great guy who has relocated his business back to NA where he started down on Division Street years ago.
ReplyDeleteSorry Roger, I've got no detailed information on the Daisy building. If I can locate anything I'll be sure to post.
ReplyDeleteI have heard that the owners are repairing the structure. I hope that is true.
