Dude's getting all prickly on us. The reporter must have interrupted Mayor Gahan's emerging Arts Council putsch.
What, is Gahan annexing the Arts Council, too? Schweitzer out as Executive Director.
Notice Gahan's use of the word "hiring" in the discussion relayed below. I wonder if he read Shane's most recent column?
SHANE'S EXCELLENT NEW WORDS: In case of parapraxis, take care lest your Freudian slip shows.
What -- read?
Via the tone of his comments, Gahan apparently feels compelled to backhandedly bash former NAHA director Bob Lane. If you're a mayoral sycophant, consider whispering into his ear that this is unnecessary and tasteless. Then again, sycophants already occupy various board seats, don't they?
Perhaps something a bit stronger than Bud Light Lime would steady the despot's nerves. He's really beginning to feel the heat, isn't he?
Still no resident commissioner on New Albany housing board, by Elizabeth Beilman (Hanson on Parade)
HUD asked Mayor Gahan to make appointment last October
NEW ALBANY — Despite a letter in October from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Indianapolis office urging him to do so "immediately," New Albany Mayor Jeff Gahan has yet to appoint a resident of the New Albany Housing Authority to the Board of Commissioners.
SNIP
Gahan has since appointed three commissioners, but the resident commissioner seat remains vacant. The mayor said that's because he hasn't found a replacement.
"I've interviewed quite a few people. One turned me down the day before yesterday. We actually have two that are considering the appointment right now, Gahan said.
He said he has put forth a "consistent effort" to find a replacement since Powers left the board last fall. Any appointment needs to be able to put in "a substantial amount of work, particularly now," Gahan said.
"The board needs to be fully engaged. I reserve the right to name the board and the timing, as well," Gahan said. "I'm doing the best I can to make sure the board has all the folks in there that they need, the absolute best I can. But I'm not going to make a hiring error because that's what's got us in this situation today."
Be careful, Elizabeth. You may begin receiving those legendary 2:00 a.m. phone calls.
As for the existence of "hiring errors," feel free to list them in the comments section.
"that's what got us into this situation?" Right.
