All about olive oil, and avoiding nasty Mafiosi.

In January, I caught an episode of 60 Minutes for the first time in years, and saw this.

Don't fall victim to olive oil fraud (CBS)

60 Minutes producer Guy Campanile offers shoppers some tips on finding true Italian extra-virgin olive oil amid a sea of fakes.

To make a long story short, fakes aren't the only problem. The mafia has its hooks into olive oil, too. Some producers in Italy are banding together to sell direct to buyers worldwide in an effort to preserve quality and avoid payouts.

Soon there'll be a shop at Underground Station specializing in olive oils, and I'm hopeful it will become the local expert.

The Olivent, a shop that will offer specialty olive oils, vinegars and some gourmet candies is set to occupy a 1,000-square-foot space in the development.

It's yet to be seen what they'll do about the most lucrative local protection racket, that of subsidizing faux Democratic politicians who do little or nothing to support local independent business.

Unity, anyone?
