New Albany Public Art Project: The catalog, and a whole new series.

Bank Street Brewhouse's installation ran in 2010-2011, and was called All Bottled Up.

Now there's a catalog reprising the Bicentennial Series, plus a new Today and Tomorrow Series coming in 2015.

The long-awaited New Albany Public Art Project catalog has arrived! This full color, 52-page catalog details the New Albany Public Art Project: Bicentennial Series, which presented temporary public art installations in downtown New Albany, Indiana from 2010 to 2013. About the new Public Art Project catalog, Carnegie Center curator Karen Gillenwater writes, “The Public Art Project had a positive impact on both our community and the artists who were involved with the project. This catalog will serve as a lasting resource for our community, documenting the artworks and historic information that were a part of the project. We are making the book available for a suggested donation so that anyone in our community who would like one can have one—until they run out!”

On Friday July 11, 2014, from 6-8 pm, we invite the public to join us in celebrating the launch of the New Albany Public Art Project catalog. This event will be the public’s first chance to get a copy of the catalog, available for a suggested donation of $10. Attendees to this event will also be the first to hear about the New Albany Public Art Project: Today and Tomorrow Series, which will bring new public art to the community beginning in 2015. Opening remarks will begin at 6:30 pm.

At the July 11 event, visitors can talk with Public Art Project artists featured in the new catalog, and get their copies of the catalog signed by those artists. The first 25 attendees will also receive a free New Albany Public Art Project reusable shopping bag. Refreshments will be served, and this event is free and open to the public. Live music will be provided by Jon Silpayamanant and Sara Soltau.

A limited number of New Albany Public Art Project catalogs are available, so this event is the perfect opportunity for fans of the Public Art Project to ensure they get a copy. Each chapter of the catalog presents a year of the project, telling about both the art installations and the historic themes that inspired them. Quotes about the New Albany Public Art Project from residents, visitors, business owners, organization leaders, and others share the voice of the community throughout the catalog. One new feature incorporated in the Public Art Project catalog is bonus video content, viewable through augmented reality by scanning designated pages with a smartphone, or by visiting www.youtube.com/user/TheCarnegieCenter

Thank you and we hope you can join the party on Friday July 11!

  1. Ann and I will definitely be in attendance. These years have been New Albany's transcendent moments, the cry against the darkness, the legitimate grassroots statement made in a Philistine zeitgeist. Thanks to Mike Ladd and the Carnegie board for 3 fabulous demonstrations of Occupy New Albany. Everyone should come in celebration of the past and the limitless future of public art in New Albania.
