Lincoln: A film helpfully reminding us of that long-forgotten time when Republicans believed in things that genuinely mattered.

  1. It's not that "long-forgotten" - just 40 years ago. Republican president Richard Nixon ended US involvement in Vietnam 1973, his visit to the People's Republic of China in 1972 opened China to free market trade, he initiated détente and the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty with the Soviet Union, he initiated wars on cancer and drugs, imposed wage and price controls, enforced desegregation of Southern schools and established the Environmental Protection Agency, and in 1972, President Nixon immediately endorsed the Equal Right's (for women) Amendment's approval.

Nixon wouldn't stand a chance against Mitch McConnell and the Tea Party today.

Too liberal? No, I was there. I remember him saying "It's not illegal if the president does it..."

Perspective is everything, but you don't have to reach back 150 years...
