How many days until January 1? I have high hopes for a de-politicized riverfront season in 2012.
New Albany is a state of mind … but whose? Since 2004, we’ve been observing the contemporary scene in this slowly awakening old river town. If it’s true that a pre-digital stopped clock is right twice a day, when will New Albany learn to tell time?

You didn't miss Wax Fang and Cabin, did you?
We were just getting started, and this is the only photo I had time to take last night at the Cabin and Wax Fang show at our Riverfront Amphitheater. The weather cleared, and a good crowd turned out for quality entertainment, as booked by a private promoter who could have eased the bottom line by asking for a minimal cover charge -- if permitted by the city to do so. The show was well worth a few dollars. Numerous Progressive Pints were consumed, and a good time was had by all.
Amen. Last night was great, in more ways than one. A big thanks to Jenna, Thorpe Woodworks, NABC, and other sponsors/participants who made it all happen. It was much needed and much appreciated.
ReplyDeleteFor me, the main point of last night's gathering can be gleaned from the unfamiliarity of many with our NABC beers.
ReplyDeleteIn short, there were dozens of unfamiliar faces who were not familiar with our beers, but were willing to be quickly versed, and then to come back for more.
The same might be true of their reaction to New Albany itself -- if they're given the proper answers to their questions.
True that. I ran into some last night whom I know but who rarely make it to these shores without a specific invitation. They were right along side hundreds I didn't recognize, which was even better.
ReplyDeleteThe same concept played out at the Carnegie's event with Bob Edwards earlier in the evening.
All in all, I'm guessing a few hundred newbies and non-regulars, all of whom we may get to know better.
One suggestion for making the "venue" more attractive, not to mention "local", and "green" would be to use haybales for walls or sectioning things off. Nothing says we do it cheap like orange plastic construction net.
ReplyDeleteFoxhollow Farm in Goshen has a Fall festival where you can see some great haybale building. Arches, tunnels, enclosures like mazes...not to mention the local-ist green-ist seating for any price.
Post-Racial News Of The Day: Jeff said, "true that."
