Join us as we welcome award-winning radio personality Bob Edwards at the Carnegie Center for a live interview and book signing on Sat. Sept. 24, 6 - 7:30 pm.

The Carnegie Center is pleased to welcome radio personality Bob Edwards, best known for his tenure as the host of Morning Edition on National Public Radio, for a live interview and book signing on Saturday, September 24, from 6:00 - 7:30 pm. In his new book A Voice in the Box: My Life in Radio, Louisville native Edwards recounts his career as one of the most important figures in modern broadcasting, describing his journey on the radio waves through his exit from NPR in 2004, the launch of The Bob Edwards Show on XM Satellite Radio and his induction into the Radio Hall of Fame.

Edwards got his start in radio in New Albany in 1968 at WHEL, located on the second floor of a building at the corner of Pearl and Main Streets. Of his time at WHEL Edwards writes, “The Louisville stations were loath to hire beginners, so I had to go across the river. It was like working at a little paper where you learned to set type, sell ads, do obituaries, cover fires. That’s what working at a small radio station is like. You have to spin records, fix the plumbing, try to sell ads. It’s a good place to learn. The audience is small so you can be bad.”

Edwards will share similar anecdotes about his time in New Albany during the program. Edwards will be interviewed by Roger Whaley, Director of Technology for the New Albany-Floyd County Consolidated School Corporation (retired) and the first radio instructor at Floyd Central High School. The interview will be interspersed with audio clips from Edwards’ career.

A question and answer session for audience members will follow the interview, and a book signing with Edwards will conclude the evening. Copies of A Voice in the Box will be available for sale at the Carnegie Center by Destinations Booksellers before and after the event.
