Anti-toll group muzzled as 1Si's chosen candidate politics at NA's HH.

I've seldom seen two back-to-back Facebook news feeds that better summarize the situation as the elction approaches.

In the first, a grassroots anti-toll group is silenced by the remorseless machinations of regional economic power elites.

In the second, the recipient of the very same regional economic power elite's political endorsement roasts corn, presumably regarding it as "nice" that people cannot be heard when their complaints are directed against his unelected superiors.

NO TOLLS ON SHERMAN-MINTON, OR KENNEDY BRIDGES. EVER.

State Representative Ed Clere Kicked off Harvest Homecoming by meeting a lot of people and working in the booth of Boy Scout Troop 36 roasting corn! After enjoying "A Nice" dinner with people at the Save Our Knobs meeting, I had some great chats at the Proudly Pro-Life Banquet. It's wonderful to see so many people out and about and I enjoy hearing what's on people's minds. Thanks for all the supportive comments.

  2. I don't live in the knobs and I wouldn't have been welcome at the stated banquet. Mr Clere won't take questions on his campaign page. I'm not going to be at a Republican fund raiser(or Demo for that matter). I don't belong to 1SI(although I do own some very nice dark suits). Jerry Finn, suggested that I need to ask Ed in person about his views on various topics.

What is wrong with this picture?

  3. I'll say it again:

We're going through all these gyrations purely because ORBP cheerleaders: Clere, Dalby, Finn, Grooms, Stemler, Reagan, Glasscock, et al; are collectively unable to put forth an objective argument as to why their chosen path is better for the region's long-term prospects than any of several other options.

They produce an economic impact document that compares ORBP to nothing, when they know full well that what the public is asking for isn't nothing.

Even in reporting those "compared to nothing" numbers, they lie. 56,000 jobs? Really? That's not what they told the federal government when applying for a grant.

They tout safety as a primary concern while refusing to discuss modes of transportation that are much safer and cheaper.

The list goes on and on.

We have an honesty problem that dwarfs our transportation problem.

  4. You also know the deck is stacked when you ask one of the Indiana board members about the KY study that showed 99% of the benefit from basically just building the EE bridge and you get blank stare in response. That particular board member said that he would look into it. I've never heard anything back from him. 1SI's Mr. Dalby has been asked the same questions on the Tribune website and there has been no response him, either. Well, I guess he did, once. Our ideas were delusional. Nothing like a detailed explanation.

And then there are the actual elected officials who just delete and don't even try to answer.

  5. And let's not forget our Governor. The money is in the bank.

Never get an answer to that, either. But we are the "one sided" people. Hard to have additional sides if no one is willing or capable producing some.

  6. Oh, Mark, quit being so "negative" and "twisting things".

You must be a member of one of those "demonstrably small groups" like 85% of those polled who do not support the current bridges project.

I mean, who cares that the bi-state bridges authority was purposely loaded with the very same Bridges Coalition members responsible for so much disinformation, right?

It's just four billion dollars and our region's future. I don't see how the potential for private ownership and 50 years of tolls concerns a citizen like you at all.

What do you expect, that the elected officials who are supposed to be looking out for the public interest would dare question that type of blatant propaganda? You're obviously just not respectful enough.

If it weren't for you malcontents and your facts, we'd be right in the middle of the most cooperative, collaborative era ever, enjoying cheap factory air conditioning and all the chemically processed foods we could eat.

    LOL

  8. Just out of curiousity and to stir the pot again, since the transgression of not answering the ORBP question and being endored by 1SI, has anyone checked into Mr. Grooms history of involvement in fundamental grass root community organizations or the time he has volunteered in non-profit groups?
I have a bad habit of looking passed horrible labels like "GOP" or "republican", and I see Mr. Grooms for what he has all ready done for the local communities. Perhaps it would be enlightening to find out more about the man aside from a question on tolls and who supported him.
( for the record I will be available to be ran out of town on sunday between 2pm and 3:30 pm)

  9. I, and many others, listened to Mr. Grooms speak at Destinations Booksellers during the primaries. I heard what he had to say and, while he's a very nice man, he supports policies that I don't.

I've never quite understood the argument that you should vote for the person and not the party, however. If you believe that the agenda pushed forward by this governor is a bad one, why would you vote for a person, no matter how nice they are, that will support that agenda? Admittedly, I did it last time with Mr. Clere. I happen to like Ed Clere, although I doubt he likes me very much anymore. But I can't support candidates who 1. don't take a stand against tolling, which is something that will affect me and mine very much and 2. are big supporters of Gov. Daniels' policies, which I think have been bad.

  10. On his campaign web site, Grooms promises to follow the bridges issue every day. And then he provides information about it that's not accurate.

Can we trade "nice guy" for "paying attention guy"?

  11. I have been a long time believer that there should be a EE bridge built first and see how that goes. The problem is the A$$ in the EE of Louisville are only happy if they can stall it or force a Downtown bridge on us.

It gets down to two bridges are better even with Tolls then NONE. I for one travel across the Bridges 2 or more times a day. It will be a big help when and if it just get done.

Stop Talking and build the damn things.
If you cant keep from bitchen, get out of the damn way.
