BAYLOR: It was a modest start
Not so long ago, an old friend observed that my meek and unobtrusive writing style — as displayed over 30 years in letters to the editor, a beer appreciation newsletter, Internet blogs and finally newspaper and magazine columns like this one — can be traced back to baby steps at the Weekly Wad.
New Albany is a state of mind … but whose? Since 2004, we’ve been observing the contemporary scene in this slowly awakening old river town. If it’s true that a pre-digital stopped clock is right twice a day, when will New Albany learn to tell time?

Today's Tribune column: "It was a modest start."
This one requires little in the way of introduction. The one thing I neglected to do in today's column was dedicate it: To the memory of the late David Roark, whose boundless wit so enlivened those years.
Interesting and well done.
ReplyDeleteThe comments online always amuse me. I wrote a recent letter to the editor in the Indy Star and laughed my ass off at the scouring comments. Always nice to know one can get such an angry response from the written word. If nobody is commenting, it must not be challenging enough, I think...
Unintended consequences.
ReplyDeleteTypography can surprise you even when it's not your fault. The cut line next your picture ends with "www.cityofnewalbany.blo" last line "gspot.com" Hummm... Didn't get excited myself until I saw "Lost Wad" and started to reminisce about the 'balcony' row at the old New Albany Drive-In.
