Grrr.

Am I the only reader having problems with the Tribune's new web site?

I get so many "abort operation" messages while trying to load articles that I'm expecting protesters to assemble outside my house, having mistaken it for a clinic.

It was happening before the changeover. An article would not load at all, but usually I could click refresh a few times and make the page materialize; now that's only occasionally successful.

My habit in such cases is to blame the many ads, bells and whistles that appear on each web page. However, note that I make no claims to expertise when it comes to such matters. I'd merely like to continue linking to the newspaper, but find it annoying that I have to work so hard just to read a damned article.

Anyone else? Universal, or just my laptop?

  1. no you are not the only one. and when it happens I have to close out explorer completely in order to get anything at all to happen.

Of course you realize that could be part of the biased tribunes plans to keep information from being dispersed to the little people, right?

  2. I'm having the same issues on a Mac using Firefox, so it's apparently not platform specific.

Comments are featured on the homepage and when I click on "read the story", I get "page not found" errors. Like you, just clicking on a regular link often leads to an empty page. Refreshing the empty page sometimes works, sometimes doesn't.

The new search function produces multiple hits on the same stories and buries others deep in the results.

I'm surprised corporate HQ didn't do better testing before shipping this template out to their various papers around the country unless, of course, we are that testing.

  3. The search function does not appear to work for me and it is a lot harder to get to the columnist pages.

  4. I've used Chrome a few times(usually IE7)and have not had the abort problems.

  5. Yep, same problem. Usually if I keep hitting the back button after getting the message, it will finally show up after 3 or 4 attempts. ANNOYING. I have pretty much given up on it unless it's of supreme interest.

  6. I have been having navigational problems, as well. Also, on some comments, I see the right side gets cut-off.

  8. When you select the link, right click, and "open in new tab". There is a slight delay but it is better than the "abort problem"

  9. Good suggestion, RemCha. Unfortunately, more of the same here when I tried doing it. Still "abort," and still just about every Tribune page with a "but with error" message at the bottom.

    Oh, well.

  10. The other thing any Tribune web page does to me is that it freezes the tab with a "busy" message and makes it hard to shut.

  11. It works for me, sorry R.

    BTW

The news about Mr. Bobo's bid will have consequences with the outcome of this Thursday's sewer rate vote.

Prior to this announcement there was only speculation of development. With the paper publishing that an actual bid has been submitted for the land it changes the variables for finding a good solution to the sewers. It would have been better if greater transparency was given with these announcements. I’m under the impression that the vote will not go as I would expect it to go.

Secondly, without the SSOs being fixed New Albany can't give out sewer credits for a project like this.

Finally, I would like to see a clause in the agreement of some type of guaranty by Mr. Bobo to what he will build, like Louisville’s plan commission has done to the Cordish Group in Louisville recently.

This week on State of Affairs officials from organizations promoting downtown Louisville were addressing developments currently happening in downtown. One of the many things that they talked about was how a lack of financing has stopped many of the proposed developments. I am surprised that Mr. Bobo has had luck with his ability for such a large project.
There is a good chance that what is promised to be built won't. Some sort of guaranty will be nice. Especially if tax money is involved.

  12. It needs to read the other way around.

This Thursday's sewer rate vote will have consequences for Mr. Bobo's bid.

  13. Use Chrome. I have practically no problems. The ads make the links jump around on page load, but even that's just a few seconds for the page to settle into place.

It's a much better site than before, at least with Chrome. We've been very happy with Chrome.

No problems with FireFox on the computer or with Dolphin on my phone. I'm happy to upgrade/cleanup your computer. Drop it off at BSB and give less than a day turn around.
