“Just about the only glimmers of leadership have come from the mayors, with Regina Overton initiating Scribner Place and the YMCA, James Garner completing it and Doug England understanding what New Urbanists are trying to say about density, downtown living, niche retail and two way streets, to name a few topics,” Baylor said.
The city's assistant director of planning even mentions bicycles and public transit. Boy, he must've really sold out.

The article mentions the "Floyd County Preservation Commission." That is incorrect. You mean the New Albany Historic Preservation Commission, which is a branch of city government.
ReplyDeleteOtherwise great article.
All of this England Administration boosterism properly belongs in the "state of the city" speech the govt's chief executive gives yearly.
ReplyDeleteI don't personally have any contact with the principals under discussion here, I offer my observations strictly on the basis of what I read. What I read is Bluegill and Mr Wood of redevelopment share many ideas.
If anyone here really wants to stimulate civic dialogue, as opposed to operating an unregistered campaign office for Mayor England's apparently new bid for re-election, then open up the discussion to actual tested progressive thinking.
..if you can handle real debate.
