Floyd County Prosecutor Keith Henderson said Thursday the state will retry David Camm.
We don't know how much it will cost, but we do know that a third trial will lead to another book, and maybe expanded television coverage.
Nonetheless, it had to be a tough, tough call for the elected prosecutor who insists that justice has nothing to do with politics. This time around, can he perhaps see to it that the trial has nothing to do with inadmissable evidence?
No cynicism here. Just fatigue.
eeeeck! more trauma for everyone at a huge public expense and what is the justice goal?
ReplyDeleteI agree with the fatigue comment. This trial simply must go forward. It must be prosecuted correctly so there is not a fourth trial. It must be the last trial for this man so this community can get some closure. No matter your political stripes, this case will divide a lunch crowd quicker than anything.
ReplyDeleteAgreed, Daniel.
ReplyDeleteI think the prosecutor is secretly hoping he doesnt have to try this case again, and let someone else risk their political neck if there's an acquittal. No doubting that his political aspirations exceed Floyd County Prosector's office...
ReplyDeleteBook deal, indeed.
I also agree that it must be tried again. Two different prosecutors made critical errors in prosecuting this case and had the jury's decision nullified. Correct prosecution is right and let the jury decide. Camm is entitled to a fair trial and all are entitled to a just verdict.
