Information, please: Jackson's Seafood and Liquidz Bar & Grill.

Above is the remodeled Orchid, now Jackson's Seafood on West Main. The sign on the door suggests it will be open this week. Below are two views of the storefront on East Main, opposite the old Reisz Furniture building, billed as Liquidz. Readers, do you have any information on these new businesses?

  1. I can't tell you much more than the following, and can't actually confirm it as I do not know the folks involved, but I am told...

The site under construction, Liquidz, is apparently one of two establishments that intend to open on the block, ramrodded by some of the folks at Connor's Jewelry - I believe the sales location, not the school.

Just guessing, the bar is enabled by the riverfront license, the sum of which must be coming pretty close to exhaustion. Who will the the last to acquire one to open another alco-tourism draw?

  2. Is there a "sum" of riverfront permits? I was under the impression that so long as the criteria were satisfied, the number of them would be virtually limitless -- conceding that the many churches downtown unnoticed by The Gary comprise de facto alcohol-free zones.

  4. I recall that when Mayor Garner obtained the riverfront authority, the number was limited to 10. I could be wrong, but that was what I was told at the time.
