Hmm ... what's up with the house at 1003 East Main Street?

The Ordinance Enforcement Officer needs to check out 1003 E. Main Street.

Last year the owners found the time to eliminate several nice trees in the front yard, but has the grass there been cut yet this summer? It's approaching baling proportions.


The outbuilding in back is starting to look pretty bad, too. As it presently stands (actually, as its door leans), the historic structure is an "open" invitation to mischief.

Although perhaps it's an extreme example -- there are no conceivable connections, are there? -- here's a view of a far better maintained house on Main Street, one mere blocks away from the disappointing vista pictured above.

Indeed -- it's good to be the leader.

Here's the skinny as I have heard it: the Espinozas, who have purchased the old Jim's Gun Room/Von's Place building at Pearl and Main, were the owners & residents of 1003, as well as the proprietors of the defunct California's Coffee House. They have sold 1003 to another family from California, who are moving here soon. The Espinozas have moved to the Pearl Street address.

    No one I have talked to knows why the grass remains uncut, but it is interesting to note that Historic Landmarks Foundation possesses an easement on the exterior of this property.

    What has been posted on 1003 E. Main Street about the sale and new owners are being checked out, as earlier as two weeks ago nothing has been filed indicating change in ownership of 1003 E. main Street or at Jim's Gun Room building.

    As I posted earlier on your blog the use of Jim'S Gun Property was to be a Mortage/Real Estate Office. I will post what information that can be verified

  3. Maury, there was work being done yesterday on the interior of the former Jim's Gun Room. The windows were covered, but the Market Street door was open.

    The property at 1003 Eaat Main Street was recorded in the County Auditor's office to Mr. Leopoldo Espinosa on March 3,2006 from a Warranty Deed excuted on February 28,2006. The Sellers were Mr. Reynaldo Espinosa and Claudio Espinosa.

    The Property at 234 Pearl Street was sold to Mr. Reynaldo Espinosa.The date of record for taxtation pr=urposes in the Coounty Auditor's offoce was May 11, 2006. The Warranty Deed was excuted on May 10, 2006. Tthe Seller was Ms. Lou Alice Fink.

    The Historic Landmarks Foundation has written a letter to Mr Raynaldo Espinosa urging his attention to 1003 East Main Street and reminding him of the
    Historical Convents in existance on the property. The Historic Landmark Foundation hopes that Mr. Leopoldo Espinosa will take note of its concerns about the property.

    I'll be blunt about this. I have nothing whatsoever of a personal nature against the owners, but the track record is growing more clear.

    The interior of the present La Rosita's was butchered when being made over into the defunct California's, and the house at 1003 obviously was neglected during their tenure.

    NA's historical preservation contingent should be watchful with respect to the building at 234 Pearl.

    Update

    The porperty at 1513-1515 East Market is owned by Raynaldo Espinosa,the site of the defunt California Coffee House, is two years behind in paying property taxes on the aforementioned address. Mr. Espinosa will receive a letter informing him the the property will be sold to pay the taxes on his property.
