Wil Greckel, who built the IUS music department, has died.

(Earlier this week)

Almost twenty-five years have passed since the completion of my bachelor’s degree at Indiana University Southeast, so it shouldn’t come as a shock to me when I hear of the passing of faculty members who were in their prime during my years at IUS.

'Wil' Greckel, who worked to bring music to IUS, dies, by Paula Burba (short shelf life for Courier-Journal links).

Ironically, I’d been holding the link below, waiting for a good opportunity to “sing” the praises of the university and its cultural impact on the community.

Indiana University Southeast Music Department Debuts New Recording Label.

There’s no better time than today to recognize the music department’s achievement, acknowledging Dr. Greckel’s three decades of service in helping to build the IUS music department into what it has become today, and remembering that when all is said and done, IUS remains perhaps New Albany’s single most undervalued asset.
