Saturday we'll be in Indianapolis for the judging of the Indiana State Fair's Brewers' Cup Competition 2005. Last year, the New Albanian Brewing Company won the Brewers' Cup Best of Show with our Bourbondaddy Stout, a strong dry stout aged in Woodford Reserve bourbon barrels.
I'd like to predict another win for the hometown team this year, but won't. The competition is fierce, and includes breweries from surrounding states. There also is a homebrewing division, with the overall winner given the chance to take his or her recipe to a sponsoring microbrewery (last year, Upland Brewing in Bloomington) and help prepare a batch professionally for sale throughout the state.
It's always fun to attend such functions in Indianapolis, and explain to people where New Albany is located, as most people there think Kentucky begins somewhere around Columbus.
