Tonight, NA Confidential retreats to a position of relative safety behind its protective keyboard and thoughtfully sips a cup of unsweetened West Side coffey (served bitterly hot) while asking those of you who attended tonight's City Council meeting to post your impressions.
Am silent no more...read Part 1 at http://volunteerhoosier.blogspot.com. At your discretion, sir, feel free to repost it in its entirety or use it in any way you wish.
ReplyDeleteI liked Radical's comment. What is needed is at the next meeting for someone to protest and insist that they use the Catholic version of the Lord's Prayer then someone else to insist on the Jewish version. Then someone to insist on something other than King James version because he was a homosexual. etc. Spend 20-30 minutes fighting over which version of the Prayer to use and that will be the last time (or next to last) they do it.
ReplyDeleteI, too, don't care for the recitation of the Lord's Prayer . . . not only because of religion being introduced into a government meeting, but also because it is so hypocritical on the part of a number of those reciting it!
ReplyDeleteHowever, an email response from the Freedom From Religion Foundation a few months ago about this topic indicated that the council can indeed, recite the prayer, and that they are not violating any laws in doing so. The FFRF suggested that the council be asked to include other religions/beliefs if they wish to open the meeting with an invocation.
Thanks for chiming in, Rhiannon, but you don't know what your talking about. I consider Valla Ann to be a friend of mine and I fully support her in her efforts to bring City Council meetings into the sunshine. I spoke with VAB today and exchanged e-mails with her and I assured her that I, too, think the city should be funding the videotaping. She called for that last night. Did you not hear her do so? Did she not excoriate CM Crump and cite the example of other cities who routinely tape their meetings. How can I possibly be threatened by Valla Ann when I support her efforts? I may not agree with every word that comes out of her mouth or admire some of the others who urge her to continue to attack the mayor, but I would plant myself firmly in her corner. Thanks for speaking up, though.
