From the British documentary archive, two examinations of shell shock during the world wars of the 20th century.

I stumbled by accident on the first of two Shell Shock documentaries (above), which was linked to the second part, below. Background is hard to find, although they seem to have been produced in 1998.

War itself is awful, and the notion of using damaged soldiers as guinea pigs for experimental therapies is horrible, too, especially when one considers the objective of rushing them back to the meat grinder as soon as possible.

The archival footage is black and white, and there is little that might be termed gratuitous blood and gore. But it's still very, very disturbing.
