Why doesn't Dave Matthews object to this degree of embarrassment?

Jump ball: Who can forget Trashy Women, anyway -- particularly when Jesus approves?

Straight up: The committee admittedly works hard to make the riverfront functional, but it takes three huge steps back for every small one gained by lurching forward with acts like Confederate Railroad, although at least there'll be plenty of ice cold swillwater for the night.

Verily: We cannot have a new political regime too soon. Get out your brooms, bring on the election, and let's just hope the Urban Enterprise Association survives until then.

Confederate Railroad in Concert Friday August 19th @ Amphitheater at 8pm

Confederate Railroad has had more than 20 of their singles on Billboard’s Country Charts with hits like ‘Queen of Memphis’ and ‘Daddy Never Was the Cadillac Kind’ and who can forget that country classic "Trashy Women". From rowdy country to raw emotion, a Confederate Railroad concert today covers a wide range of feelings. Young people will be there rocking to "Trashy Women", while their parents and even grandparents will likely be singing along to "Jesus and Mama".

Seriously, who writes that stuff?

No idea. Does ad copy come from the committee, the band or DNA?

Gently and sincerely, folks, I ask, which candidate will ACTUALLY change things?

A good question with few answers thus far.

Just as gently and sincerely, none of them will change things MUCH. Too many promises to too many people--it's the nature of the beast. At least for 2 of 'em. Don't know anything about the Pub candidate.

Beyond the "PC" of the name of band, I don't really have problem with this. I have absolutely no interest in attending. I don't like this style of music. Don't care for the beer that will be served. Still, a lot of other people do. I'm not sure why they shouldn't be represented too. If this was the only "style" ever presented at the Riverfront, I could see your point but absent that, I don't.

IAH,

These events brand the city as much as the band. It's entirely possible to have solid, country offerings, (i.e., represent a constituency that's interested in such things that may well include me if weren't so damn ham fisted) without tying the city to the Confederacy and/or a band that dresses up as Confederate soldiers to defend the "southern way of life" in its videos.

Wrongly or rightly, Officer Jack Messer was suspended without pay for off-the-cuff remarks in a private meeting. The same City that suspended him for racial insensitivity is now spending weeks openly promoting an event that celebrates the defense of antebellum "states' rights".

If there were justice, those who booked Confederate Railroad would be facing the same public scrutiny and trials.

Understood. That why the "PC" at the beginning of my post. I'm not sure that reason really comes out very clear in Roger's post.

Much of the post is cracking about DNA's promo, yee-haw, swill, etc. I really don't see anything in his post that addresses the real problem. I know you feel about it. I know that Roger feels the same, as do I. Someone who doesn't know, could take offense to their choice of music and that would be unfortunate. The "real" message gets lost.
