Thay may have used a contractor for the job, and in any case, if they thought there was something illegal that still might bite them, I doubt that there would be any acknowledgment, yea or nay.

We've been nice to them, really; most of the signs have remained up through Christmas.

Now, they'll be coming down, I suspect ...
